Men’s Group with a Purpose
St. Joseph’s Guild’s main purpose is to develop a meaningful and structured men’s group that will serve men, the church and our community. This will be done in three ways: physically, mentally and spiritually.
Physically The intent is to rebuild an environment that is inviting and welcoming to men. The guild will fulfill a need that is missing in many of today’s churches which includes involvement, participation and interaction of men. This is done through structured and organized projects and events that will have a positive impact on individuals, the church and our community. Also planned are quarterly celebration events for the men like golfing, attending a sporting event, fishing, hunting, car shows, etc.
Mentally The purpose is not to bring men back to church but to bring the church back to the men. A positive benefit of this organization is bringing men together who are at multiple levels of faith. This would include the men who are not active in a church and are looking for more information, men who are trying to learn more of the basics of their faith, men who are looking for more spiritual fulfillment and even men who have been ordained within their denomination. Each of us can learn from one another.
Spiritually Men follow men, not religion; this is a basic fact even during the time of Jesus. When Jesus was spreading the word of God, the men that followed did not follow a religion, but a man. They followed him because he had their trust and respect. Men are better at seeing and relating to what is being taught visually than in an intangible form. By providing men the ability to be hands on and mentored by other men, they can be taught by visual and physical examples. This helps to provide what is needed for spiritual development and growth.
