Our dog hates the water. Maybe it’s because he’s grown up on the dry prairie, but he doesn’t even like to get his feet wet. After two summers of us trying to convince him to jump in the lake, it was the ducks that finally did the job! He may not like water, but he loves chasing ducks, and they were worth the uncomfortable plunge.
I
have sensed God calling me to take a deeper plunge into leadership. God
gave leaders like Gideon, Esther and Deborah to Israel at the time they were
most needed. I am drawn to answer God’s risky call to leadership –
in the lives of college students, in the lives of those leading college
students, and in the church. I have decided that I want to deepen my
seminary studies and so I am now pursuing a Masters of Divinity degree.
It will cost more in time, energy and money, but the investment will better
equip me to serve the people he places around me.
God is also leading me to help others take the plunge into a deeper experience of God. A USF freshman wants to start an InterVarsity group but feels overwhelmed by school and work. Please pray with me for students to see the reality of their calling to spiritual leadership in the midst of competing demands of school, jobs, relationships. I directed the healing prayer ministry team at the Midwestern InterVarsity Women’s Staff Conference Oct 26-28 and had the opportunity to pray for many women doing strategic ministry around the country. One woman experienced deeper healing of family abuse, enabling her to be more fruitful in ministry. Another felt the need to pursue greater intellectual study, giving her mind to God to be used for his Kingdom. Please pray that God’s Spirit will lead us into greater courage in our call to ministry. I feel honored to play a part in equipping these ministers of the gospel.
I can’t do this ministry on my own. An important part of my calling to ministry involves my fundraising efforts, gathering a team around me to pray and fund this mission. Please pray for fruitful appointments and events scheduled this fall. I so much appreciate all that you do to lift me up in prayer as I care for students and other campus ministers as they seek God and seek to minister to others.
May God bless you with ducks on your pond that entice you to plunge into the joy of your calling. Thank you for providing for us in so many ways.
In God’s mercy,
